The synchronous machine has power and/or voltage control. Its stator winding comprises a high-voltage cable with solid insulation, and a rotor having a thermally based rotor current limit intersecting with a thermally based stator current limit in a capability graph at a power factor considerably below the rated power factor or having the thermally based stator current limit in the capability graph. A set of temperature-determining members and/or current or voltage measuring devices are provided for limiting the currents in order to prevent thermal damage. |
