New material of formula C40N4O, process for preparing it and applications This new material, C40N4O, is characterized in that it is very hard (Hε = 1929 kg/mm-2) with a geometrical structure which makes it very light (d = 1.59 g/cm-3). The process for obtaining it comprises heat treating a carbonitrogenated precursor in the presence of a suitable catalyst in atmospheres of nitrogen and air and in a temperature range between ambient temperature and 900 degree C. The yield from the process is high. The crystallizing portion of the product contains percentages of more than 90% C40N4O and less than 5% of C70N3O3S, C72N4O2, C2N2O and C3N4. The C40N4O has important applications in the technical ceramics industry and in finishes, in ultra-lightweight batteries and molecular filters, among other uses.
