The support consists of a flat tray surface with several recesses forming storage cells for the surgical instruments. A cover fits over the top of the tray. The cover consists of a flat rigid sheet (2) of plastics material formed by extrusion, which seats into a recess (5) of similar depth to the thickness of the cover, formed around the periphery of the tray. The cover is additionally supported by engagement with the top edges (4a) of the walls dividing the tray to form its storage cells (3). The tray has pivotable gripping and carrying handles (7) attached to at least two of its sides, pivotable about horizontal axes and connected to pivotable fastening clips (9,10) which engage the cover to secure it in its closed position.
