The thermal printer mechanism includes an array of thermal printing elements (3) on an elongated carrier (2) rotatable in the rearward direction about pivots on the lateral flanges (1a) of the support (1). The printing elements are urged by a spring against the drive roller (4) from which they are spaced by a cam (5). The pivot axis (A) of the roller can be mounted on the support (in the fixed-roller version) or on a paper cover jointed to it (in the retractable-roller version). The cam pertaining to the fixed version may be replaceable by another cam driven by the tilting of the paper cover and vice versa.
