The drive pedal has a pedal lever (20) pivotally mounted at the rear end nearest the driver and pivotal about a horizontal axis in an approximately vertical pivot plane. A target value generator for the vehicle speed is associated with the pedal. A return spring biases the pedal lever (20) in the output position. A striking plate (28) for the driver's foot (22) is provided on the pedal lever (20) which can also be deflected perpendicular to the pivot axis, by means of this plate (28). A drive direction switch (34) is associated with the pedal lever (20). When the pedal lever (20) is deflected perpendicular to the pivot axis, this outputs a direction signal. A second return spring (32) is also provided. This returns the lever (20) to the output position when it is deflected perpendicular to the pivot axis.
