The lock mechanism is for use in locking the door of a container, locker etc. A rotary lock (2) is coupled to the follower of the lock. A one-armed lock lever (3) lies on the control curve of the rotary lock (2). The free end of the lever (3) is connected to a slider (4). This is released on insertion of a coin or a key. In another embodiment, a spring biased bolt engages in the recess of the rotary lock (2). The spring biased bolt is moved to the release position by a card. In the first arrangement, a coin preferably moves a sprung control lever mounted on the slider. The pivot pin of the lever enters into a channel and releases the rotary lock. A key shaft may be arranged in the slider, into which sprung control pins extend so that when the right key is inserted, the rotary lock is released.
