Plastics housing connector with tongue and groove locking - uses lugs on ends of tongues and additional grooves for spacer-initiated closure and tooled release providing latched closure and withdrawal positions

Two spaced locking tongues (1a,1b) are moulded onto the housing part (1) at right angles to the housing dividing plane. Lugs (1c,1d) on their opposing outwards sides grasp inwards-directed lugs (2c,2d) moulded onto the other part (2) of the housing. A spacer (3) inserted in the housing opening (1g) between the two tongues keeps these locked in closure. The tongues run parallel on their obverse sides and the parallel contact faces of the spacer are spaced by the same amount as are the obverse faces of the two tongues. Latching grooves (3e,3f) on the spacer contact faces engage the two opposing lugs (1e,1r) of the two tongues when the spacer is inserted to complete the locking position so when locked home the spacer lies flush with the surface of the tongue-moulded housing part.
