<p>A socket is sized for use with an incandescent light bulb having a threaded stem of a specific size. In order that the socket can be used with a bulb having a smaller diameter stem the socket is fitted with an adapter. The adapter has an outer thread to suit the internal thread of the socket and an inner thread to suit the smaller bulb stem.</p>
