An electromagnetic actuating device has a magnet coil (3) to which a control current can be applied and an armature (4) allocated to the magnet coil which is arranged to perform movements which depend on a control current flowing through the magnet coil and a spring arrangement (5, 8) biasing the armature in the opposite direction, in which a securing position is defined which is assumed by the armature at a holding current through the magnet coil, where the holding current flowing through the magnet coil can be adjusted to a higher or lower value without the armature leaving the securing position, and the higher and lower currents can be set in such a way that irregularities in the magnetic and spring forces actuating the armature do not take the armature into a different actuated position from the securing position.
