Process for rendering inert and harmless asbestos or asbestos-containing waste, comprising the preliminary stages of wetting said waste, separating and freeing the fibres thereof until an aqueous suspension of asbestos fibres is formed; adding to said suspension an additive consisting of a silicic compound with a very fine granulometry and high surface area and mixing until bonds are formed between the asbestos and silicic component. The paste is then mixed with a hydraulic binder and formed into solid manufactured products. The invention also relates to the solid manufactured product obtained from said process, in which the asbestos fibres dispersed in the hydraulic binder are coated with said silicic compound.
