The microscope is used for examination of a fluorescent material, stimulated by an illumination system providing a zonal light beam directed onto a required surface of the sample (1), with collectionof the stimulated fluorescence via an optical objective system. The stimulation light is supplied to the sample outside the optical objective system and lies below the fluorescence saturation intensity, the optical objective system having at least one filter (31,32) for blocking the stimulation light wavelength in front of the fluorescence detector (40).
