A machine 1 for exchanging rails of a track 2 has a frame 6 supported on two on-track undercarriages 5, and a number of rail guides 16, 17 located between the undercarriages. Drives 18 adjust the guides, which are designed to guide old and new rails 3 and 4 out and in. Additional rail guides 9, 15 each project along the machine, over respective ends 8 of frame 6. These guides are vertically and laterally adjustable by drives 12 and 13. Operators' cabins 22 with control units 23 are provided for operating the rail guide drives. Vertically spaced rail guides 27 are provided between the undercarriages to support the old and new rails as they cross. Work locations 24 with four seats 25 may be provided between the undercarriages (detail, fig. 3). Numeral 30 represents a supply or disposal device for rail fasteners. The machine is self-propelled and powered, by engine 20 and drive 21.
