The invention relates to a coupling arrangement (60) for coupling the brake system of a towing vehicle (10) to the brake system of a towed vehicle (12). The coupling arrangement (60) includes a first piston/cylinder coupling member (62) on the towing vehicle (10) connected in fluid communication with the fluid line of the brake system of the towing vehicle (10) so that operation of the brake system provides for displacement of the piston (70) of the piston/cylinder coupling member (62) of the towing vehicle (10). A second piston/cylinder coupling member (74) is mounted in use of the towed vehicle (12) and is connected in fluid communication with the fluid line of the brake system of the towed vehicle (12) so that displacement of the piston (82) of the piston/cylinder coupling member (74) provides for operation of the brake system. With the towing vehicle (10) coupled to the towed vehicle (12) and the coupling members coupled, the piston (70) of the first coupling member (62) is mechanically linked to the piston (82) of the second coupling member (74) and operation of the brake system of the towing vehicle (10) thereby provides directly for the operation of the brake system of the towed vehicle (12). |
