The method involves using a medium or high frequency alternating heating current in an inductive or conductive manner. A heating current delivered to a load by the secondary side of a transformer is generated on the primary side by rectifying and finally controlled static inversion of the supply current. The heating current is generated without using an oscillator circuit, whereby the reactive power is compensated by a compensation device (10) connected before the static inverter (7) in the d.c. circuit (4). The reactive power is nullified by a capacitor in the d.c. circuit.
