PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a compound having excellent water solubility and stability in the form of aqueous solution and useful as a water repellent for the surface of various building materials in high efficiency at a low cost by reacting an organic silicon compound with a glycol ether in the presence of an alkyl titanate catalyst. SOLUTION: The objective organic silicon compound having a glycol ether group and expressed by formula III ((n) is an integer of 2-3; m+n is 3 or 4) can be produced by reacting (A) an organic silicon compound of formula I (R<1> is a 1-20C alyl; (m) is an integer of 1-2; R<2> is H, CH, or C2 H5 ) with (B) a glycol ether of formula II ((p) is an integer of 3-50; R<3> is H or a 1-4C alkyl) in the presence of an alkyl titanate catalyst. The catalyst is preferably tetrabutyl titanate or tetrapropyl titanate. For example, the compound of formula, CH3 (CH2 )9 Si[O(CH2 CH2 O)-3 CH3 ]3 can be produced by reacting decyltrimethoxysilane with methyltriglycol. |
