PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method for reducing the volume of foam polystyrene waste by a simple manipulation through the mitigation of explosive risks and the suppression of odor. SOLUTION: This device for reducing the volume of foam polystyrene consists of a treatment container 3 for storing foam polystyrene, a hot blast supply path with a heater 11 and a blower 9 for circulating the hot blast between the path and the treatment container 3, a means 13 for detecting the hot blast which is provided in the hot blast supply path, an air discharge path which branches off a hot blast circulation path and is equipped with a deodorizer 21 containing an oxidation catalyst, and an atmospheric air intake port for inducting an atmospheric air into the circulation path. Further, the air equivalent to the quantity of an air inducted from the intake port is discharged from the air discharge path. Thus, at least, either of the quantity of an induced atmospheric air or the calorific value of the hot blast supply path is variable in accordance with the temperature detected by the means 13 for detecting a hot blast. |
