<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a crude hydrogen iodide in high yield and a pure hydrogen iodide with high purity (<=0.2vol.ppm organic material, <=0.1vol.ppm moisture). SOLUTION: The pure hydrogen iodide is produced by allowing the crude hydrogen iodide obtained by reducing iodine with a hydrogen adduct to naphthalene to contact with zeolite. In such a time, all of iodine is previously dissolved in a part of the hydrogen adduct to naphthalene, the solution is continuously added into the remaining hydrogen adduct to naphthalene to allow to react, the reaction solution is divided into two, other iodine is dissolved in one of the divided reaction solutions to make a new solution, which is added into another divided reaction solution to allow to react. The quantity of the crude hydrogen iodide is, >=1/3 by weight, that of a zeolite iodide and the zeolite is previously brought into contact with the crude hydrogen iodide to remove sulfur portion of the impurity therein. The kind of the zeolite is A type (3, 4, or 5Åin average pore diameter) or mordenite type, and an active carbon can be combinedly used after the treatment with the zeolite.</p> |
