PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability and shock resistance by constituting the recording medium of a nonmagnetic supporting body, a magnetic film formed on the supporting body, and a polysilicate coating film in which fine particles are dispersed with 0.1-50 particles/μm<2> density. SOLUTION: A base film 22 comprising a Ti film of 50nm thickness and a Cr film of 50nm thickness is formed on a vitreous carbon supporting body 20 by DC magnetron sputtering in an Ar gas atmosphere. Then a CoCrTa-based magnetic film 24 of 40nm thickness is formed on the base film 22, and successively, a Cr-based protective film 26 of 5nm thickness is formed, and further a film forming coating liquid is applied by spin coating method on the protective film 26 to form a coating film. The protective film 26 is irradiated with UV rays by using a high pressure mercury lamp, then heat treated at 300 deg.C for one hour to form a silica-contg. polysilicate coating film 10 of 10nm thickness.
