PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent an electron source from being charged so as to stabilize an emitted electron orbit by specifying potential within a minimum range. SOLUTION: A faceplate 3 provided with a phosphor film 7 that is made to emit light when bombarded with electrons is opposed to an electron source 1 in which a plurality of electron emitting elements 15 arranged in a matrix are mounted. On the electron source 1, a potential specifying part 9 is provided in which potential is specified to be within a range satisfying tanθ<=2 whereθis the angle to a direction perpendicular to the surface of the electron source 1, as seen from the position of the faceplate 3 to which the electrons emitted from the electron emitting elements 15 are applied.
