The machine has a pushing mechanism (12, 13, 14) which propels a jar (11) off the side of the production conveyer line (8). The selected jar is clamped against the sampling mechanism. The whole mechanism is then tilted backwards away from the line by a rack and pinion device (20, 21). After taking the sample, the mechanism tilts forward again and replaces the jar on the conveyor belt.
