PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the processing unit to be mounted on all color image processing units, to detect a circular image at a comparatively low cost and to discriminate a paper note or the like. SOLUTION: A concentric circle image detection circuit 70 detects a concentric circle image of an original face and stores patterns each represented by a diameter of or a chordal pitch and a chordal distance from a center of a detected concentric circle, and a concentric circle discrimination circuit 71 compares the detected pattern with the chord pattern of a concentric circle having been stored in advance in the buffer memory 72, and discriminates the detected pattern is that of a specific concentric circle when they are coincident. A discrimination result output circuit 73 provides an output of the discrimination result. Since the pattern represented by the chord pitch and distance of a chord is used for the discrimination of the concentric circle in this way, identification of patterns in existence at a prescribed interval is facilitated and the storage capacity for information required for the detection of the pattern is considerably reduced. Thus, the processing unit is realized at a low cost and the real time image processing is attained. |
