1,149,113. Rotary induction furnaces. WIENER SCHWACHSTROMWERKE G.m.b.H. 22 Feb., 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 8540/67. Heading F4B. [Also in Division H5] A rotary induction furnace vessel has attached to it at the axial ends two crucible inductors 3 and 4, which are disposed on opposite sides of a plane of symmetry which contains the central axis 2 of the vessel 1. During operation, one of the crucible inductors, e.g. 3, is below the bath surface 5 and the other, e.g. 4, is above said surface. The vessel 1 is rotated about its centre line 2 through 180 degrees when it is desired to replace inductor 3 during furnace operation, the inductor 4 moving to position 4<SP>1</SP> and being energized to take over from deenergized inductor 3, (now in position 3<SP>1</SP>) A water-cooled flanged cover may temporarily replace the inductor which has been removed.
