The damping system has the input shaft (2) linked to the output shaft (3) by a concentric moving joint (3,8) incorporating springs (25) and a viscous fluid inside a trapped volume (33) expelled through a damping duct (34) by the relative movements of the coupling sections. Changes in torque, or changes in shaft speed, displace a bearing coupling (13) to generate axial displacements, which tension the springs and which expel viscous fluid. The damping control operates in both directions. The trapped volume is linked to a supply duct by a non return valve (36) through the input shaft. The control of the fluid connection to the non return valve regulates the damping characteristics of the damping element.
