The fastener secures a plain bearing cover (14) to a bearing block and comprises bolts orthogonal to the bearing dividing plane and at least one bolt (28) transverse to the above mentioned bolts. The transverse bolt exerts a compression force onto the bearing cover. Pref. in the machine wall (24) is tapped a thread (26) for the transverse bolt. Between the latter and the bearing cover is inserted a shim (34) and the bolt may be secured against turning. There may be a seal between the bolt and machine wall.
