The device has sensors (1a,1b,2) producing signals indicating the instantaneous vehicle body inclination, filters with long time constants (4), a setting device (9) for setting an adjustment correction according to the filtered signal and at least one control element (10a,10b) controlled by the setting device and connected to a headlamp. The device also contains a detector (3,5;6,7) of the stationary or moving state of the vehicle, which derives the state from the instantaneous inclination sensor signal, and switching devices (8) which pass a filtered signal with a shorter time constant to the correction setting device when the stationary state is detected.
