Disclosed is a recording apparatus for recording information signals on a recording sheet. The apparatus includes a conveyance mechanism for transferring the sheet, a recording head reciprocating along the sheet for performing recording thereon, a driving power of source for generating a driving force rotating in one direction which is used for reciprocating the recording head and for transferring the sheet by the conveyance mechanism, and a mechanism for inhibiting the conveyance of the sheet while the recording head is moving along the recording region of the sheet. The reciprocating operation of the recording head and the conveyance operation of the sheet are effected by a single motor.
