A gas flow cut-off member (14) for a gas meter (10) including a valve (20) movable in a longitudinal direction relative to a valve seat (12a), said valve being connected to a longitudinal valve rod (22) extending in said longitudinal direction. At least one portion of the valve rod is screw threaded and engages a part (24, 46) that surrounds said rod portion and forms a nut, whereby the valve rod (22) moves helically.
