An anti-friction nut (16) for engagement with an elongate shaft-like member (12) having a groove (14) with opposed walls (22, 24). The nut has an axial bore (20) which is adapted to receive the shaft-like member, and a radial bore (28) communicating with the axial bore (20). The radial bore (28) carries an anti-friction roller (30) mounted by means of two back-to-back ball bearing assemblages (32, 34). A nose portion of the roller (30) extends into the axial bore (20) and engages one wall (22) of the groove (14) of the shaft-like member (12). There is a spring (42) in the radial bore (28) which engages the outer race of the inner ball bearing assemblage (34), and effectively biases the roller (30) in a radially outward direction, away from the shaft-like member (12). A threaded adjustment plug (44) in the bore (28) engages the outer race of the outermost ball bearing assemblage (32), to effect adjustable movement of the roller (30) in radial directions, against the action of the spring (42). Reduced looseness and backlash are realized. |
