Multicolour electro-photographic images are prepared by sequentially electrostatically charging a photo-conductive layer, exposing it imagewise through a primary colour separation filter, developing the latent image thus formed with an aerosol of a solution of a dye in a solvent, the dye having the complementary colour to the primary colour of separation filter and the solvent having a boiling point of 50 to 200‹C. and a resistivity of 10<SP>3</SP> to 10<SP>5</SP> ohm cm, so that the dye particles are deposited imagewise on the photo-conductive layer in a dry state, and repeating the above sequence using filters of the other primary colours and dyes of the corresponding complementary colours. The image is fixed by spraying the photo-conductive layer with a solvent for the dyes, said solvent optionally containing a film forming binder (e. g. shellac or a cellulose ester). The dye solution is preferably electrostatically atomized and applied under the influence of a developer grid electrode. Suitable solvents for the dye solution are ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, dimethyl formamide, cyclohexanone, glycerol-1, 3-diethyl ether, ethanol and dimethyl sulphoxide. |
