Nutritional medium delivered to cell culture through permeable membrane

An assembly reveals the changes in a living cell culture while exposed to a supply (3) of defined gas contg. particles, esp. cigarette smoke. The novelty is that the nutritional medium is delivered to the cell culture (6) through a permeable membrane by means of a separate supply (5) from below, while the supply (3) of gas is delivered from above. The enriched gas supply flows past an electrostatic separator assembly (7,10). That part of the electrostatic separator assembly (7) exerting its influence on the gas is located above the cell culture. The electrostatic separator assembly consists of a high-voltage source (10) linked to a metal grid (7). A charge is imparted to the particles in the vicinity of the inlet (2).
