Compact continuously adjustable pliers for measuring and gripping

The pliers have an upper jaw (OB), guide and notched shank (FRSch) within an elongated slot (LL) having a straight smooth jaw-side edge (BIK) and notched lever-side edge (RIK) formed in one piece with the lower lever (UH). The upper jaw piece is milled so that a shaped piece of the lower jaw (UB) can slide within the elongated slot to cause the jaws to close around an object. The action of the levers about a flat edged circular fulcrum pin (RSt) engaged in one of the notches slides the lower jaw over a short length of the guide keeping the jaws parallel with very little force in the components. The choice of notches provides a larger adjustment of the relative positions of the jaws.
