The process involves passing the beam (10) from a light source (16), emitted at the end, effectively a point source (9) of an optical fibre (8), through a polarising analyser (11), and then through the birefringent filter (12) so that it falls on a mirror (13). Reflected, the light re-passes through the filter, where its polarisation is spatially modified according to the angle between the filter axis (Z) and the normal (n) to the mirror, in the horizontal plane (H). In the vertical plane (V), the filter is set at an angle to the optical axis to optimise the interference fringes and improve sensitivity. The measuring optical fibre (14) collects the returning light, passing it to a detector (15) which deduces the angle from the fringes.
|
