<p>A ring seal 9 of deformable plastics material which fits over the side wall of a container 2 forming part of a petri dish containing a culture medium 20. The ring seal 9 is compressed between the side wall of the container 2 and a lid 10 which would otherwise be a loose fit, and thereby provide a hermetic seal for the petri dish. The petri dish container 2, cover 10, and ring seal 9 may be sterilised in advance, and used to form a long life agar plate by filling with culture medium 20 under aseptic conditions.</p> |
