Method of detection of a failure in the electronic or injection system of a combustion engine

The detection system allows a defective ignition or fuel injection device to be indicated by monitoring the running of the multi-cylinder, i.c. engine, e.g. by detecting the rotation rate of the engine crankshaft. Each engine cylinder (1-6) has a pair of ignition circuits (A,B) or fuel injection circuits, one of which is disconnected and the operative ignition or fuel injection circuit identified as defective when incorrect combustion is detected. Pref. the defective ignition or fuel injection circuit is recorded in a memory.
