Amino phenyl phosphonic acid derivs. of formula (I), their isomers and acid or base addn. salts new. R1, R2 = H, halo, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, nitro, or trihalomethyl; X = CO, SO2, or CH2; A = 1-20C alkylene with 0-6 double bonds and in which 1 or more CH2 gps. may be replaced by phenylene, naphthylene or anthracenylene (all opt. substd), 3-7C cycloalkylene, -phenylene-A3-phenylene-, carbazolediyl, N-(R5)-carbazolediyl, 9-thiofluorenediyl, 9-oxy-fluorenediyl, furandiyl, thiophenediyl, pyrrolediyl or N-(R5)-pyrrolediyl or a gp. of formula (i); q = 0-2; R3-R5 = H or 1-6C alkyl; A2 = bond, methylene, 1,2-ethylene, 1,3-propylene or ethenylene; A3 = bond, methylene, ethylene, -CH=CH- or -SO2-; 3 Cpds. (I) are specifically claimed e.g. : 4,4'-Ä1,4-divinylenebenzenediyl bis(carbonylamino)Übis(phenyl phosphonic) acid.
