Compositions comprise (i) a thermoplastic chlorine-containing polymer, and (ii) both a stabilizer (a) consisting of at least one aromatically-substitute urea or thiourea, and a stabilizer (b) consisting of at least one organic phosphite comprising as sole constituent elements carbon, hydrogen, phosphorus, oxygen and/or sulphur and optionally nitrogen, wherein the phosphorus is present in at least one group selected from and the thio analogues thereof where R1, R11 and R111 are hydrocarbon groups, the total quantity of stabilizers (a) and (b) together being 0.1 to 5 parts per 100 parts by weight of polymer, and the composition being essentially free from salts or organo derivatives of barium, cadmium, tin, zinc or lead. Specified polymers are vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride polymers, chlorinated polyethylene, chlorinated polypropylene, chlorinated rubber and rubber hydrochloride. The preferred aromatic substituent is phenyl. Specified phosphites are mono- and di-lauryl phosphites; trihexyl, triheptyl, trioctyl, trinopyl, tridecyl, trilauryl, tricetyl, tristearyl, triphenyl, tris-(nonylphenyl), neopentyl diisodecyl, diphenyl 2-ethylhexyl, phenyl di-2-ethylhexyl, di-nonylphenyl) 2-ethylhexyl, diphenyl isodecyl and diisodecyl phenyl phosphites; diisodecyl pentaerythritol diphosphite 2 - isodecyloxy - 5,5 - diisodecyl - 1,3,2-dioxaphosphorane; triethylene glycol diphosphite and trimethylol propane phosphite. The compositions may also contain magnesium oxide, magnesium stearate, sodium carbonate, epoxidized oils, butyl epoxystearate, pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, lubricants, e.g. calcium stearate, antistatic agents, plasticizers and fillers; and may be formed into sheets, e.g. for cladding buildings. Examples describe stabilizing polyvinyl chloride with (5 and 24) calcium stearate, diphenyl urea and triisodecyl phosphite; calcium stearate, sodium stearate, diphenyl urea and (7) trinonylphenyl phosphite, (8) diisodecyl pentaerythritol diphosphite, and (9) triisodecyl phosphite; calcium stearate, polyethylene, diphenyl urea, and (11) triisodecyl phosphite, (12) diphenyl isodecyl phosphite, (13) trinonylphenyl phosphite, and (14) diisodecyl pentaerythritol diphosphite; (25) calcium stearate, magnesium oxide, diphenyl urea and trinonylphenyl phosphite; calcium stearate, triisodecyl phosphite, titanium dioxide, and (29) diphehyl urea, (30) magnesium oxide and diphenyl urea, (31) monophenyl urea, (32) magnesium oxide and monophenyl urea, (33) magnesium oxide, magnesium stearate and diphenyl urea, and (34) magnesium oxide, magnesium stearate and monophenyl urea; (35 and 36) calcium stearate, diphenyl urea and diphenyl isodecyl phosphite; diphenyl urea, triisodecyl phosphite and (40) stearyl stearate, (43) stearyl stearate and sodium stearate, (46) sodium stearate, (49) polyethylene and (52) ethyl palmitate; and calcium stearate, diphenyl urea, triisodecyl phosphite, and (54 and 55) butyl epoxystearate, and (56 and 57) epoxidized soya bean oil.
