<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black matrix for a color filter and a resist composition which are inexpensive and excellent in light blocking property, solvent resistance, and the property of adhering to a substrate. SOLUTION: This black matrix for a color filter uses carbon black as a black pigment whose total oxygen content, calculated from CO and CO2 in volatile components at 950 deg.C, is 7mg or more per 100m<2> of surface area. This resist composition for the black matrix contains carbon black, a photopolymerization initiator composition, and an ethylene compound. Therefore, if the carbon black has an oxygen content as large as an area oxygen concentration of 7mg or more per 100m<2> , it has good dispersibility. Since the amount of the carbon black mixed can be increased, the black matrix which, although having a small film thickness, is excellent in light blocking property, solvent resistance, and the property of adhering to a substrate can be manufactured in a short time.</p> |
