PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a substantial video conference in a remote place by not only transmitting picture data by a digital still camera but also outputting picture data from an incorporated memory or an external recording medium to transmit it. SOLUTION: Picture data preliminarily recorded in an incorporated memory 12 for picture storage as a recording means or an IC memory card as the external recording medium by the digital still camera during transmission or picture data can be arbitrarily transmitted. The mode where digitally converted picture data is transmitted from an external serial port 17 without passing recording means of a sub-microcomputer 18 and a main microcomputer 10 as it is provided. Meanwhile, two transmission modes are set where picture data is outputted from the memory 12 or the IC memory card as the external recording medium after passing the recording means and is transmitted. When a switch 22 of a switching means is operated to set a mode, the main microcomputer 10 outputs picture data from the port 17 through the sub-microcomputer 18 in accordance with the set mode.
