PURPOSE: To shorten the residence time and make the activation reactor compact by carrying out the activation of carbon using steam of 100% concentration without dilution to proceed the activation reaction at a high speed and to omit the transporter or conveyer for the carbonizing material and the activation reaction gas by incorporating the thermal cracking oven (carbonizing oven) and the activation reactor integrally into the main body of an upright cylinder. CONSTITUTION: In the thermal cracking oven 14 for powdery coal, the coal is burned with the primary air less than the air volume which is theoretically required in combustion to form solid carbon-remaining ash. This ash is allowed to directly fall into the activation reactor 12 and recovered, then activated with steam to give powdery particle activated carbon and the calorie held by the exhaustion gas from the thermal cracking oven is recovered with the steam heater 16 and the boiler 18 and a part of the exhaustion gas is recycled to the thermal cracking oven 14. As the steam for activating the ash, is used a low-pressure steam which is heated with the exhaustion gas 10 the steam heater 16, and further heated with an electric heater 22. The low- pressure steam for activating the ash is heated with the exhaustion gas from the thermal cracking oven, then the secondary air is fed to the exhaust gas to combust the unburned portion to generate the high-pressure steam. |
