PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject food or beverage having action for inducing production of nerve growth factor and having effect for preventing or treating geriatric dementia such as Alzheimer's dementia by adding fruit body of the genus Hericium or its treated material to a food or beverage. SOLUTION: An ethanol extract, a ground material, dried powder, etc., of fruit body of mushroom (e.g. Hericium erinaceum) belonging to the genus Hericinm is added as the fruit body or its treated material to a food such as a baked material, a fermented food, a kneaded product, a milk product, oil and fat product, a seasoning, cake or these intermediate products or beverage such as coffee, cocoa, tea, fruit juice, vegetable juice, fermented beverage, or these intermediates to provide the objective beverage or food by which preventing and treating effects on geriatric dementia such as senile dementia of Alzheimer or ischemic cerebral blood vessel type dementia are expected. |
