In a boring head having a toolholder 30 slidably mounted for adjustment radially of a rotating flange 24, a graduated scale 38 mounted on the toolholder 30 parallel -to its direction of adjustment is read through a magnifying optical viewer 50 hinge-mounted on a non- rotating part of the head. The toolholder 30 has apertures 32 for receiving a boring tool 34 and is adjusted along a slideway 26 by a feedscrew 28 rotated by a detachable crank handle 36. The viewer is carried by an arm 44 connected by a hinge pin 42 to a foot 40 bolted to the head and is adjustable along a slideway 46 by means of a feedscrew 48. A key 54 on the arm 44 co-operates with a slot in the flange 24 so that when viewer 50 is tilted down from a raised inoperative position and the flanges is rotated the key engages the slot to ensure correct alignment of the scale 38 and the viewer. As shown, the boring head is attached by screws 18 to a milling machine slide 12 containing a horizontal milling spindle 14.</p> |
