PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording medium having an excellent surface glossiness and capable of recording with higher image density by providing a coating layer having gloss on the surface and formed of a continuous film containing inorganic fine particles as a main body on an opaque base material. SOLUTION: Water base ink or particularly recording medium having excellent recording characteristics in the case of ink jet recording is provided with a coating layer formed of a continuous film having gloss on the surface and containing inorganic fine particles as a main body on an opaque base material or preferably a base sheet. The particles for constituting the coating layer captures the recording agent component such as dye in ink, fixes to be able to record with high image density on the surface layer. An ink accepting layer containing pigment and binder as main bodies is provided on the opaque base material, and a coating layer having 45% or more of 75 deg. mirror glossiness of the surface (measured by JIS-2-8741) is provided on the accepting layer. The ink droplet contains the recording agent having an anionic group.
