PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate formation of a sample having a shape and size suitable for an analyzer and analysis of trace element by sampling adherent substances using a thermally shrinkable material and concentrating the adherent substances by shrinking the thermally shrinkable material, thereby enhancing the sensitivity of analysis. SOLUTION: A planar styrol foam of 40mm square having thickness of 10mm is employed as a thermal shrinkage material and coated with an object to be analyzed, i.e., a paint diluted to be undistinguishable by naked eye thus producing a sample. When the sample is subjected to atmospheric pressure variation of 76cmHg→36cmHg→76cmHg only once at about 150 deg.C using a thermostatic vacuum dryer, the sample shrinks to 15mm×15mm×4mm. Since the paint to be analyzed is concentrated by a factor of 7.1 when expressed in terms of area, it can be observed with naked eye. The thermally shrinkable material is not limited specifically but includes foamed urethane and foamed polyethylene as well as styrol foam.
