SHEET-SHAPED-MATERIAL DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet-shaped material detector consisting of a transmitter and a receiver where a space is mutually provided to allow a sheet-shaped material to pass in-between. SOLUTION: A transmitter 10 and a receiver 12 are installed at a support plate 14 for transmitting and receiving ultrasonic beams along axes which cross at an actuate angle within a range preferably from 50 deg. to 70 deg. for the surface of a sheet-shaped material to be used and each has a hood for screening ultrasonic beams against the mixture of floating sound wave which is reflected by an external object or a film 20 or the surface of a sheet. A detector also has an output signal means for responding to the ultrasonic beams which are received to generate an output signal. One application of the detector is a connection part detection device for detecting the presence of a connection part in a film-shaped material and the other application is an edge detection device for indicating the position of the edge of the sheet-shaped material.
