PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly illuminate a plurality of display portions with a single light source, in a rotary switch having the plurality of display portions each of which is translucent and illuminated by the light source from inside. SOLUTION: This rotary switch has housings 2, 43, 84 each of which is approximately boxshaped with an opening on its front side, and a dial knob 19 in the form of a cylinder being flat along the direction of its axis and closed at one end and open at the other is placed on the housing, with part of the knob projecting from the front opening 86, and is freely rotatably attached thereto; a light source 69 is disposed to be located on the axis of the dial knob. Display portions 24, 51 which provide display by transmitting the light from the light source to the outside are provided at least on the peripheral surface of the dial knob and on the front surface of the housing, respectively, and a light guide 77 guides the light from the light source to the display portion provided on the front surface of the housing.
