摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording element having a large recording capacity without requiring by incorporating org. molecules and a charge transfer material into a recording layer and using the internal electric field generated in this recording layer. SOLUTION: Previously digitized image data are first inputted to an image display element 48 and this display element 48 is irradiated with object light 43 expanded to parallel beams by a beam expander. The element is irradiated with the transmitted light thereof. At this time, reference light 45 is simultaneously made incident at a prescribed angle. Multiplex recording is made possible by changing the angle of the reference light 45. In this case, the internal electric field is generated by the interference fringes generated by superposition of the object light 43 and the reference light 45, by which the modulation of optical characteristics is induced and diffraction gratings are formed. The object light 43 is shut off and only the reference light 45 similar to the reference light used for writing is irradiated in the case of reading the written records. A reader 47 is installed in the position apart to the extent that the direction 44 where the object light 43 passes and the reference light 45 do not overlap and, therefore, the observation of the reproduced images by this reader 47 is made possible.
