PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject coating material capable of bringing out smoothness and good touch feeling characteristic of a coating film formed on the surface of a product, etc., by mixing fine gelatin powder into a solvent. SOLUTION: Gelatin powder or granules are pulverized with a jet mill and classified to afford gelatin powder having particle size finer than 6μm and the gelatin powder is mixed and blended with a solvent such as dimethylformamide and toluene to afford a part of coating material component. Furthermore, pulverization is preferably carried out using gelatin having 100μm average particle diameter, in the conditions of 6-8kg/cm<2> pressure of jet air jetted into a jet mill and air temperature cooled to -15 deg.C.
