PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form in a controlled position a single-peaked projection superior in sliding characteristics by using a solid laser which is small in size, low in cost and long in service life. SOLUTION: A laser beam irradiating device is used which is provided with a pulsative laser beam generating device 1 using a solid laser beam source, converging means 2 for converging the pulsative laser beam on the surface of a material to be machined (hereafter 'machining surface') to form a minute spot, and spot moving means 3 for changing a position of the spot on the machining surface. Assuming the pulse width of the laser beam is δ, its spot diameter, D, and its relative speed for the spot on the machining surface, V, the projection is formed with the machining surface irradiated by the laser beam under the conditions in which a scanning parameter P defined as P=δV/D is 0.25 or higher. |
