PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact automatic transmission, which can obtain the smooth running of a vehicle, by reducing a gear ratio step at the high speed side, and preventing the busy shift. SOLUTION: In a two-speed type automatic transmission, since the diameter of a first pinion P1 is formed smaller than the diameter of a second pinion P2 and these first and second pinions P1, P2 are integrally formed with each other, gear ratioλ2 of the second speed becomes 1+(ZS2 /ZR1 )×(ZP1 /ZP2 ), and since (ZP1 /ZP2 ) is 1.0 or less, gear ratio can be reduced without enlarging the diameter of a ring gear R1 at a large degree.
