PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of orientation defects and the deterioration of rubbing cloth. CONSTITUTION: The air in a vacuum attraction induction path 35 is sucked via a first suction path 36 and edge parts 33 are brought into tight contact with the surface of an electrode substrate 1 when a vacuum pump not shown in Fig. is driven. The edge parts 33 do not float even if a rubbing roller (not shown in Fig.) is driven in this state and, therefore, the liquid crystal element free from the orientation defects is formed. Even if the electrode groups are exposed at the ends of the electrode substrate 1, the electrode groups are covered by a rubbing mask 30 and, therefore, the rubbing cloth does not come into contact with the electrode groups and the deterioration of the rubbing cloth is prevented. |
